Welcome Students! Week One

I am so excited to be a part of your photography experience this semester! My name is Rachel Wetmore, I am a student at Berea College a little less than an hour south of Lexington. I have worked with photography for several years, both on my own with freelance wedding and portrait photography as well as under National studio chain. I was home educated all the way through and can relate to some of the joys and struggles that you face as a home educated high school student.

It is my hope that this class will be more of a sharing time for all of us learn new ways at looking at the world around us through our camera lenses. Whether you have a small point and shoot camera, or a larger format SLR camera you can still capture beautiful images.

We will use this Blog format for our weekly assignments, once you come here www.bluegrassphoto.blogspot.com you will go to the top right hand corner where you will sign in with the e-mail address bluegrassphoto@gmail.com with the password "shutterspeed" (quotation marks not included.) once signed in you will click on "New Post." You will then write a description of the photo, including what inspired you to take it, where you were, what setting was on your camera etc.

You will load your picture by clicking on the little photo icon and uploading however many pictures were assigned.

The next part of the assignment is to make comments on two other photos taken by other students. The goal is to get feedback for all the students. (please try to be aware of photos that have not been commented on yet when commenting, we want everyone to get feedback.) you can make suggestions for improvement, but please also look for something positive to say as well.

When making comments you might have to put in an e-mail address, you can put in the bluegrass photo one or your own, but be sure to sign the comment.

ASSIGNMENT #1

Self Portrait

using the automatic timer on your camera set up a portrait of yourself using available light, either outdoors or by a window. For this assignment you must place the camera on a stable surface or a tripod, please do not try to hold it yourself unless you are doing an extreme closeup. Try to show your personality in this shot.
